FIVE COLTS and two fillies by Macca Lodge sire Panspacificflight have been entered for the PGG Wrightson New Zealand premier yearling sales in Christchurch in February.

Macca Lodge have entered Benbrae, a colt out of the Artsplace mare Art for Artsplace, a daughter of the well-performed racemare Feverish.

Arden Lodge, strong supporters of Panspacificflight, are selling Arden in Flight, the first foal from the one-win Rocknroll Hanover mare Rockahula Arden, and Palio Arden, who is out of the Presidential Ball mare Ruby Morn.

TWO OF THE standout New Zealand progeny of Macca Lodge sire Panspacificflight, Arden’s Choice and Little Rascal, have been nominated for the $250,000 Group I Auckland Trotting Cup at Alexandra Park on 31 December.

Already a Group I winner, Arden’s Choice has been in outstanding form for Clevedon trainer Barry Purdon at Alexandra Park this year, with three wins, four seconds and a third since early July, and has earned a shot at the open class horses in the Auckland feature.

Five-year-old gelding Little Rascal, from Panspacificflight’s stellar first crop here, is also in good form after four big runs in the South Island. Based at Robert Dunn’s Auckland stables, he was sent south for Cup Week racing. He took his earnings past $100,000 when he won at Addington on 14 October and then ran third to Dream About Me at Ashburton on Labour Day. He was only about a length behind her, in fourth, in the Junior Free-For-All on Cup Day and then ran second to Chase The Dream on Show Day. Six of Little Rascal’s eight wins have been at Alexandra Park.

THREE-YEAR-OLD PANSPACIFICFLIGHT gelding Let’s Katchmeifucan justified a big private reputation when he won on debut at Menangle in New South Wales in 1:54.2 on 15 November.

Qualifying here in the spring as Katchmeifucan for Southland horseman Nathan Williamson, he was sold to Australian interests and is now in the stable of Beautide’s trainer, James Rattray, who drove the perfect race. He stayed out of the early burn from a handy draw, kept the favourite pocketed three-deep on his inside and sprinted to the lead with a final quarter in better than 27.8 wide on the track.

Let’s Katchmeifucan is out of the three-win McArdle mare McKenzie Jaccka.

BIG-SPENDING Melbourne owners Merv and Meg Butterworth have emerged as the buyers of speedy five-year-old Panspacificflight gelding Arden’s Concord.

Bought out of the Otago stable of Graeme Anderson, Arden’s Concord spent a few weeks in Tony Herlihy’s barn at Ardmore but has now been shipped to Australia.

He won three races for Southland trainer Matt Saunders before returning to Anderson, a part-owner, for a further three wins, including an early-season double at Oamaru. Arden’s Concord left New Zealand with a formline of 221211 and earnings of nearly $32,000. He should enhance Panspacificflight’s high standing across the Tasman.

IT’S A ONE-OFF CHANCE for lower-grade Otago and Southland-trained pacers to race for a stake of $30,000 — and 15 horses have been nominated for the Macca Lodge Trained South of the Waitaki race at Addington on Show Day.

They include four last-start winners, Jayedgar, Bettor Ops, Flashing On and Frank The Tank, who’s trained by Macca Lodge employee Mark Gutsell.

Those nominated are: Jayedgar, Man I’m Good, No More Change, Rakarolla, Tact Rousey, Venice Beach, Betta Go Fernco, Bettor Enforce, Bettor Ops, Dachy, Flashing On, Frank The Tank, One Direction, Pulling The Strings, Zenmach.

MACCA LODGE stable star Pulp Fiction takes on three of the best horses in the country in the Junior Free-For-All on Cup Day at Addington on Tuesday.

“Robbie”, as he’s known around the stable, showed he was at peak fitness for the $35,000 Group III event when he won his second Riverton Cup at Invercargill on 29 October. Starting from 40 metres behind, he blitzed the field with a 27-second quarter down the back straight that took him from back in the field to a clear lead. He ran away in the straight, in the hands of Dexter Dunn, to win by five lengths in 3:22.3 for the 2700 metres.

This was his 12th win and it took his earnings past $100,000.

Trainer Tony Stratford is following the same path to Addington as he did two years ago when Pulp Fiction won the Riverton event as a three-year-old and went on to contest the Sires Stakes Final on Cup Day. A late break cost him a first four placing in the race won by Have Faith In Me.

Pulp Fiction comes up against Dream About Me, Locharburn and Field Marshall in a small but select free-for-all field this time.

PANSPACIFICFLIGHT five-year-old gelding Little Rascal has been transferred from Robert Dunn’s Auckland training base to his Woodend Beach stable in Canterbury ahead of the Cup meeting at Addington next month.

As the winner of seven races, Little Rascal is well-placed in a C3-5 mobile over 1950 metres at Addington on Friday night. He has had two unplaced runs at Alexandra Park this campaign, blocked for a run in the straight in the first and losing his chance at the start in the second.

Owned by Christian Cullen’s owner Ian Dobson, he was a winner on Show Day at Addington last year.

With earnings of $96,000, Little Rascal is poised to become the second of Panspacificflight’s progeny to break the 100k mark in New Zealand. Four-year-old mare Arden’s Choice, who starts in the Kerry Hoggard Memorial–The Holmes DG Pace at Alexandra Park on Friday night, has won $223,000.

THE BREEDING SEASON is under way at Macca Lodge with the first half dozen foals already on the ground and a record number of mares — about 250 — due to foal there this spring.

The McIntyres have taken on extra staff because of the higher number of broodmares on the property following the closure of Kina Craig Stud, which also had a 24-hour foaling watch.

MACCA LODGE has taken up sponsorship of the passing lane at Ascot Park for the three Northern Southland meetings there this season.

Reciprocity, by Panspacificflight, was an appropriate winner at the last club meeting there. Not that the three-year-old filly needed the passing lane — she was in front and cruising on the turn.

One of the most impressive qualifiers in Southland so far this season, Panspacificflight three-year-old Katchmeifucan, has been snapped up by Australian buyers. He’ll race as Lets Katchmeifucan across the Tasman.

The Nathan Williamson-trained gelding scooted his last half in 56.3 when he qualified in 3:04.4 at Wyndham on 14 September, beating a well-bred filly in Clark Barron’s team, Somejoy (Somebeachsomewhere-Jumpforjoy), by more than three lengths.

Panspacificflight has a strong following in Australia through the performances of New Zealand-bred progeny like Glenisla, Sir Mac’s Man, Last Flight In and Straight Thru Blue.

Katchmeifucan is out of three-race winner McKenzie Jaccka, a McArdle mare from the Josephine Bret family.
